A multicultural Sunday lunch

A few quick picks of one of the first uses of our pool for the summer season ... we had a lunch with a mixed group of friends, including our Colombian friends Rodrigo and Claudia, so we could meet their mother who was visiting (pictured with Rodrigo and I); Rodrigo's sister and her family came too, and her two little girls loved the pool, and swore through chattering teeth that it wasn't cold!

Also present were our Kazakh friend Saule with a German guest, Greg, who's transiting from Berlin to the NSW coast, plus Saule and Jan's ex-English teacher, Angela, and son.

Last Sunday Jan and I spent most of the day in our backyard, dealing with the garden and trying out our pool for the first time ever! In the pictures you can see Jan using our new spade ... the result of some of Jan's gardening, named Cactus Hill ... Amanda loving her first swim in the pool ... and a close up of our new friend Lizzie (the lizard).

Es wird es langsam Sommer und Jan hat mit einem symolischen Spatenanstich die Gartensesson eröffnet. Oben könnt ihr unseren kleinen Kakteengarten sehen, von Jan "Cactus-Hill" gennant, dahinter hat Amanda ein kleines Gemüssebeet mit Tomaten, Gewürzen und Chilli angelegt.

Meine ehemalige Schulfreundin, Kellie, war zum Abendessen gekommen und hat diesen bezaubernden Blumenstrauß aus ihren Garten mitgebracht. Ich wollte nur "vielen Dank" sagen! (Kellie hat mit mir in der Schule deutsch gelernt, vielleicht kann sie mein Schreiben verstehen)

My old school friend Kellie came to dinner and brought these beautiful flowers from her very own garden. I just wanted to thank her for them with this picture! And Kellie also learnt German at school, so maybe she can understand this post without the English translation.

A Sunday trip to Mandurah

Last Sunday we spent the day at Bouvard where my Dad is (slowly) building his house ... this is the house that should have been ready for Christmas 2006 (or was it 2005?). In the photos ... Jan and Dad admiring the jarrah posts that Jan and I oiled during the afternoon ... one of the many native flowers Dad and Vera have planted on the block ... and the view of the estuary at the bottom of the block.

June's Birthday Celebrations

Happy birthday, Mum!

At Doris's house, along with Milt, Zoe, Geoff, Jan and I, we enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch to celebrate June's birthday. The photos show Mum cutting the Lumberjack cake; the rest of them getting ready to eat; and one of those amazing flowers from Doris's garden. Doris herself must have been too busy in the kitchen to make it into my photos, unfortunately.

Am Sonntag waren wir bei Doris, Junes früheren Schulfreundin, zum Geburtstagsessen eingeladen.

Gemeinsam mit Milt, Zoe und Geoff haben wir im Garten Junes 66. Geburtstag gefeiert.

Amanda's Still Teaching ...

Apologies for the lack of posts recently; it's a combination of being busy and of not doing anything too exciting! But as always, my job is exciting, and I've had some fantastic students and fun outings with them, too. Above is my class from the last term - a Pre-Intermediate group which included my first Turkish student - on a trip to Caversham Wildlife Park to see the koalas, wombats and kangaroos. Below is some of my current class, an Advanced group with a really mixed bunch of nationalities including France, Slovakia, Poland and Brazil. With their high level of English, I'm sure I'm learning much more from them than vice versa.

Es tut uns leid, dass wir in letzter Zeit nicht so oft geschrieben haben. Wir hatten viel zu tun und das war nicht immer besonders interessant. Diese Bilder zeigen einige meiner Schueler aus vielen Kontinenten. Manchmal ziehe ich es vor nicht nur im Klassenzimmer lehren sondern auch bei beeindruckenden Ausflügen wie z.B. zum Caversham Wildlife Park oder beim BBQ. Es ist für mich noch immer sehr interessant Menschen aus anderen Nationen treffen und viele interessanten Dinge über ihre Kulturen zu erfahren.

Housewarming Party

In August haben wir unseren Umzug gefeiert. In Australien heisst das "Housewarming" und wir haben viele Freunde eingeladet, um mitzufeiern. Oben: Familie (Doris, Zoe, Vera, Barry und Geoff); Unten: Claire, Sus und Matt.

In August we finally celebrated our move with a housewarming party. Above you can see some family members: Doris, Zoe, Vera, Barry and Geoff, and below, some friends: Claire, Sus and Matt.

More friends at our housewarming party: Matt and Sus's son Cameron and Trixie's granddaughter Olivia became firm friends; below, Amanda's students and colleagues: Ji Eun, Simon, Yuna, Erika and Takako. About 15 nations were represented at our housewarming!

Noch mehr Freunde bei unsere Party: oben sieht man den Sohn von Matt and Sus (Cameron) und seine neue Freundin Olivia; unten sind Amandas Schueler und Kollegen, Ji Eun, Simon, Yuna, Erika and Takako. Leute von ungefaehr 15 Laende waren bei unsere Party.
