The Californians are coming

As I type, my step-sister Cindy (Milt's daughter) and her family - husband Tony and kids Lauren and Mark - are somewhere above the Pacific Ocean enroute to spending Christmas here with us all in Australia.

Gerade jetzt fliegen meine Stiefschwester (Tochter von Milt) und ihre Familie - ihr Mann Tony und zwei Kinder, Lauren und Mark - nach Australien. Sie verbringen dann Weichnachten bei uns und kommen zum ersten Mal hierher.


Jan's excited about meeting them all and I can't wait to see them again and show them around Perth a bit - Mum's booked me in to take them to one of my favourite spots, Caversham Wildlife Park. This picture shows Lauren (left) and Mark, with their cousin Taylor in the middle, the last time I saw them - about 5 years ago, I think. Stay tuned for a more recent photo soon!

Jan freut sich, dass er die kennenlernen kann, und ich freue mich riesig die wiederzusehen. Meine Mutter hat schon organisiert, dass ich die zum Caversham Wildife Park begleiten. A walk at Cape Naturaliste

Almost exactly a year ago, we explored Cape Leeuwin; this weekend it was time for the northern pair of these capes, Cape Naturaliste. We missed the last lighthouse tour but had time for a magical walk along the coast, spotting beautiful red cliffs, stormy seas and some unusual plants and flowers.



Vor fast genau einen Jahr, waren wir in Cape Leeuwin. Letztes Wochenende haben wir das Gegenstück, Cape Naturaliste, besucht. Auf einen schönen Spaziergang haben wir eine wunderschöne Landschaft gesehen, und auch interessante Pflanzen und Blumen.

Relaxing in Dunsborough

We spent last weekend in Dunsborough, a seaside town about 3.5 hours south of Perth. A colleague of mine rented to house for the weekend as her husband was participating in a torturous iron man event on Sunday, and 11 of us got the bonus of having a bed to stay in "down south". Even better, the house came equipped with a Playstation and that karaoke-style game SingStar - Merilyn and I gave everybody's ears a good beating.

Wir waren letztes Wochendende in Dunsborough, ein Ort ungefähr 3,5 Stunden südlich von Perth. Eine Kollegin von mir hat ein grosses Haus da für das Wochenende gemietet und zusammen waren wir zu 11. Noch besser war es, das Haus kam mit Playstation und das Spiel SingStar - meine Freundin Merilyn und ich haben viel Spass gehabt und vielleicht zu viel gesungen.

A multicultural Sunday lunch

A few quick picks of one of the first uses of our pool for the summer season ... we had a lunch with a mixed group of friends, including our Colombian friends Rodrigo and Claudia, so we could meet their mother who was visiting (pictured with Rodrigo and I); Rodrigo's sister and her family came too, and her two little girls loved the pool, and swore through chattering teeth that it wasn't cold!

Also present were our Kazakh friend Saule with a German guest, Greg, who's transiting from Berlin to the NSW coast, plus Saule and Jan's ex-English teacher, Angela, and son.

Last Sunday Jan and I spent most of the day in our backyard, dealing with the garden and trying out our pool for the first time ever! In the pictures you can see Jan using our new spade ... the result of some of Jan's gardening, named Cactus Hill ... Amanda loving her first swim in the pool ... and a close up of our new friend Lizzie (the lizard).

Es wird es langsam Sommer und Jan hat mit einem symolischen Spatenanstich die Gartensesson eröffnet. Oben könnt ihr unseren kleinen Kakteengarten sehen, von Jan "Cactus-Hill" gennant, dahinter hat Amanda ein kleines Gemüssebeet mit Tomaten, Gewürzen und Chilli angelegt.

Meine ehemalige Schulfreundin, Kellie, war zum Abendessen gekommen und hat diesen bezaubernden Blumenstrauß aus ihren Garten mitgebracht. Ich wollte nur "vielen Dank" sagen! (Kellie hat mit mir in der Schule deutsch gelernt, vielleicht kann sie mein Schreiben verstehen)

My old school friend Kellie came to dinner and brought these beautiful flowers from her very own garden. I just wanted to thank her for them with this picture! And Kellie also learnt German at school, so maybe she can understand this post without the English translation.

A Sunday trip to Mandurah

Last Sunday we spent the day at Bouvard where my Dad is (slowly) building his house ... this is the house that should have been ready for Christmas 2006 (or was it 2005?). In the photos ... Jan and Dad admiring the jarrah posts that Jan and I oiled during the afternoon ... one of the many native flowers Dad and Vera have planted on the block ... and the view of the estuary at the bottom of the block.

June's Birthday Celebrations

Happy birthday, Mum!

At Doris's house, along with Milt, Zoe, Geoff, Jan and I, we enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch to celebrate June's birthday. The photos show Mum cutting the Lumberjack cake; the rest of them getting ready to eat; and one of those amazing flowers from Doris's garden. Doris herself must have been too busy in the kitchen to make it into my photos, unfortunately.

Am Sonntag waren wir bei Doris, Junes früheren Schulfreundin, zum Geburtstagsessen eingeladen.

Gemeinsam mit Milt, Zoe und Geoff haben wir im Garten Junes 66. Geburtstag gefeiert.

Die Bilder zeigen June mit dem Lumberjack-Kuchen; Jan, Zoe, Geoff und Milt beim Warten auf das Mittagessen und eine Blume im Garten. Doris selbst war sehr beschäftigt und ist auf den Fotos nicht zu sehen.
