The Anzac Legend

(Die ewige Flame der Erinnerung)
They shall grow not old
As we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn
And at the going down of the sun

Einmal im Jahr am 25. April wird Anzac Day gefeiert. Es ist der Tag, an dem der gefallenen Australiechen Soldaten aller Kriege erinnert wird. Anzac steht für Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. Viele Australier treffen sich in den frühen Morgenstunden, kurz vor Sonnenaufgang, zum stillen Gedenken. Es wird im stillen Gebetet und die Zeremonie schließt mit einem militärischen Trompetensolo und einem Gedicht (s.oben).
On 25 April, Australia has an annual holiday called Anzac Day. This is a time when Australians remember the soldiers who died while fighting for their country in wars all over the world. Anzac stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.

Stolz zeigen Veteranen und deren Nachkommen ihre Medaillien und Orden. Es wird erzählt, das in den Kämpfen, der für männliche Australier so typische "Mateship" Character geboren wurde.
