Down in Fremantle

Für Perth ist Fremantle das Tor zur Welt. Hier befindet sich der größte Überseehafen West Australiens. Viele Generationen von Immigranten sind dort an Land gegangen um dort ein besseres Leben zu beginnen.


Fremantle is Perth's gateway to the world - for boats. It's the main harbour for Western Australia, and many immigrants have started their life in Australia here. Even these funny characters we found there!




Zur Erinnerung Ihrer hat man am Eingang des Marinemuseums eine Denkmal errichtet auf dem allen Namen eingraviert sind.

Immigrants who arrived in Australia by ship at Fremantle have recently had their names engraved near the Maritime Musuem - including Barry's partner Vera, who makes a star appearance in this pic.

Das Museum hat eine Menge interessanter Exponate ausgestellt, u.a. ein U-Boot, das man von innen besichtigen kann.


We arrived too late to get inside the Maritime Museum, but will come back soon - not least because Jan is itching to get inside the resident submarine.

Kunst oder Krempel? Das Ziel ist manchmal nicht einfach zu finden. Der Hafen ist neben der historischen Altstadt einer der Anziehungspunkte für Einheimische und Touristen. Hier läßt es sich gut leben, es gibt viele gute Pubs und Restaurants. Wenn man in der Ecke ist sollte man unbedingt Fish & Chips at Cicerello's probieren, wie Ihr unten sehen könnt.

Kitschy signs to help you find your way around "Freo", which is a tourist's paradise: pubs and restaurants actually attract visitors and the locals alike. Jan got to experience his first genuine Aussie fish'n'chips at the famous Cicerello's (makes me hungry just seeing the picture - below).
